Types of Fashion Styles

It's true that fashion is all about coming up with creative new ways to wear, but there are instances when it's helpful to have a guide to follow. Here are some of the most generalised classifications of styles to get you started on the right foot.

Sporty

Leggings, cycling shorts, and oversized sweatshirts are examples of pieces of athletic wear that have made their way out of the gym and onto the streets as part of the sporty style, which is also known as athleisure.

Bohemian

The hippie aesthetic of the 1960s and the culture of music festivals are the inspiration for the bohemian style, which is also known as "boho" or "boho chic." The method utilises colours derived from the earth, natural fibres and dyes, as well as patterns and accessories from all around the world.

Maxi dresses that flow freely, long skirts, bell-bottom pants, broad-brimmed hats, fringe, suede, and slouchy handbags are some of the defining characteristics of the bohemian style.

Grunge

Grunge fashion is characterised by thrift-store finds such as plaid flannel shirts, oversize knits, and feminine dresses that are worn in a provocative and chaotic manner. This type of clothing was inspired by grunge music and the subculture that emerged in Seattle throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Grunge fashion typically consists of unkempt hairstyles, tattered pants or tights, and a pair of black boots

Preppy

The apparel and uniforms that are customarily worn at private East Coast prep schools and Ivy League institutions serve as an important source of inspiration for the preppy aesthetic.

The upper-middle-class sports like polo, yachting, tennis and horseback riding frequently serve as a source of creativity for the preppy style. Polo shirts, Oxford shirts, argyle sweaters and socks, cloth-wrapped headbands, boat shoes, blazers, pearls, cardigans, and khaki pants are some of the common items of clothing that preps are known to wear.

Punk

Punk fashion draws its inspiration from the provocative punk rocker styles of the 1970s and 1980s. Punk fashion encompasses a wide variety of subcultures, each of which has its own unique set of dress standards.

The leather jacket, the deconstructed blazer, the ripped fishnet stockings, the narrow jeans, and the massive black boots are some of the defining characteristics of the punk style.

Themes that frequently appear in punk clothes include provocative messaging, band logos, and the ability to custo/mise garments with things like patches and safety pins. Punk fashion accessories include thick black eyeliner, mohawks, spiked hair, and coloured hair, among other hairstyles.

Streetwear

The decade of the 1990s marked the beginning of the rise in popularity of the streetwear fashion style. It includes loose-fitting garments that are fashionable at the same time, such as hoodies, baggy pants, costly sneakers, and T-shirts with logos on the front and crop tops.

The fashion of hip-hop and skateboarding are the primary sources of creativity for streetwear. A purposeful shortage of products is also a key component of this subculture. People who keep up with the most recent developments in streetwear are referred to as hypebeasts, and many of them will go to extraordinary lengths in order to purchase limited-edition designer baseball hats, sweatshirts, sneakers, and other items.

Classic

The term "classic style" refers to a polished everyday style that contains elements of workwear, such as blazers, pencil skirts, and khakis. Classic style is an umbrella term for this type of style. This more businesslike appearance is ideal for the workplace as well as other situations in which you want to present the finest version of yourself.

Casual

At the weekend, you might want to dress in a more relaxed style. Consider wearing loose-fitting clothing such as jeans, T-shirts, and shoes or flat boots. It's possible that streetwear and sporty style are both examples of casual trends, yet even the most basic looks can have a preppy or hipster vibe about them.
